Popular food critic and content creator Opeyemi Famakin has issued a strong warning to Nigerians about buying Victoria's Secret body mist from local vendors, claiming that many of the products being sold are counterfeit and potentially dangerous.
"Do Not Buy Anything Victoria's Secret From Anybody in Nigeria"
In a series of Instagram Stories, Famakin didn't hold back, urging his followers to avoid purchasing the popular fragrance brand from vendors within the country entirely. According to him, counterfeit versions have flooded the market, with sellers often insisting their products are original even when they're not.
He pointed to price as one of the biggest red flags, noting that body mists retailing for over 40,000 naira abroad are being sold for as little as 4,000 naira locally — a gap he says should immediately raise suspicion.
Famakin went further, claiming that using these counterfeit products could pose serious long-term health risks, warning followers that they could be "investing in cancer" by purchasing them.
His Advice to Shoppers
Famakin advised that even at supposedly trusted stores, buyers should remain cautious, stating that "a word is enough for the wise" and promising to continue flagging suspicious products as part of his ongoing consumer awareness updates.
Why This Matters
Counterfeit beauty and fragrance products have long been a concern in many markets, as fake versions can contain unregulated or unsafe ingredients not present in the original formulas. While Famakin's claims reflect his personal warning rather than a verified lab report, they've sparked wider conversation online about the risks of buying luxury beauty products from unverified vendors.
